J.I. Campbell Home
The J.I. Campbell home was located on the southwest corner of Reynosa and Austin. When Campbell left De Leon, it was purchased and used as the Star Hotel.
James I. Campbell a son of Cyrus Campbell, then of McLennan County, bought property in De Leon on September 10, 1882 including the first lumber yard in De Leon owned by P.H. Miller. He later partnered with his competing lumber yard owner, John D. Ham.
His home was built around 1883. It was torn down in 1927 and replaced by the current structure.
The photo was taken around 1910 from the water tank which stood at the intersection of Texas and Reynosa. The Star Hotel sign can be seen on the bottom right corner.
