Stephens & Webb Photography
Ammon Ira Stephens and E.H. Webb opened what may have been the first photography shop in De Leon about not long after the founding of the town. At some point Webb withdrew as a partner and Stephens operated the shop simply as A.I. Stephens Photography. Stephens later owned the De Leon telephone exchange and a saddle shop.
After living in the area for about 25 years, he moved to Arizona, Louisiana and Arkansas before returning to Texas.
Stephens was born in Missouri on March 19, 1849 but moved to Arkansas as a boy. He married Virginia Allen Valentine in Arkansas. They came to Comanche County 1870s eventually settling 1.5 miles west of the future community of Downing.
He died at his daughter’s home in Caddo, Jan. 20, 1928 and is buried in the De Leon cemetery although there appears to be no grave marker.
